SKIDATA SIGNS MAJOR CONTRACTS IN FRANCE WITH THREE TOP SKI RESORTS

  • SKIDATA strengthens its position in France as the reference provider of ski access and ticketing solutions for the country’s foremost ski resorts.

August 24th, 2005 - France is home to some of Europe’s largest and most renowned alpine resorts. In order to boost investment in high-quality customer service, top resorts Les Trois Vallées, Les Sybelles and L’Espace Killy have chosen SKIDATA to supply the access control and ticketing solution.

First and foremost, the operators wanted to improve overall customer convenience, making it easier than ever before for ski enthusiasts to get a ski pass and to access the slopes. SKIDATA's Internet pre-booking option as well as revolutionary FREEMOTION™ gate solution was the perfect answer. Additionally, resort operators wished to issue ski passes in the form of easy-to-use contact-less keycards – a SKIDATA™ invention that has become a standard at today’s ski resorts.

Another aspect that impressed the resort managers was the system’s extensive business intelligence features, including visitor flow analyses and sales statistics, which greatly contribute to optimizing business operations.

Ultimate convenience for skiers at top French resorts

Located in the Tarentaise area of the French Alps and site of the 1992 Winter Olympics, Les Trois Vallées is one of the world’s largest skiable area, extending over six main resorts across the three valleys: Courchevel, Mottaret, Méribel, Les Ménuires, Val Thorens and Orelle.

200 ski lifts serving 600 km of slopes transport around 260,000 skiers every hour. To handle these volumes, the operators wanted to take the best equipment available. After extensive evaluations, the SKIDATA™ solution emerged as the one that satisfied all of the stringent requirements.

At Les Trois Vallées the new shared access control system will be up and running from November 2005, when the majority of ski lifts will be equipped with networked contactless readers. Currently the region’s operators are using different ticketing systems. In a second project phase starting in the summer of 2006, the equipment at Les Trois Vallées will be successively upgraded to a common and centralized ticketing system.

Les Sybelles is located in the Arvan-Villards massif and comprises six resorts and villages : Le Corbier, La Toussuire, Saint Sorlin, Saint Jean d’Arves, Saint Colomban des Villards and Les Bottières. Starting in September, a total of 110 SKIDATA readers will be installed.

A SKIDATA solution will also be deployed at Val d’Isère and Tignes in the L’Espace Killy region, site of the 1992 winter Olympics and of the future ski world championships in 2009. During the summer of 2006, 100 SKIDATA™ readers will be installed and integrated into the existing data network infrastructure.
